@Logic :
in 2011-2012 he was chosen manager of the season and guided Newcastle to finish 5th ;) what happened next year ? Newcastle sold demba ba to Chelsea .. in 2013-2014 He was 7th in the table ahead of Man United, when cabaye was sold to PSG ;) last year ? he made a run of 6 wins in a row including eliminating City from the capital one cup and beating "unbeaten" Chelsea before he was repalced ;)

Managers decisions where to play a player can have a significant effect on their performance eg Van Gaal played Angel Di Maria in the wrong place and he struggled now playing a more attacking centre mid role for PSG and he's thriving. Van Gaal is playing Martial in the wrong place atm ,see how long it takes for him to ask to use his early exit clause if Van Gaal doesn't play him as the striker he is.

Poor geordies. First Geordie Shore destroying their reputation all over the world and now this. At least form is temporary, but Geordie Shore will take some erasing.

Newcastle's fans miss Pardew more and more .. He just showed them what they've thrown away !

Total BS. Pardew's win rate at Newcastle was the worst among all the clubs he's managed. Let the Newcastle fans speak for themselves - and every single one I know doesn't miss him in the slightest. Sure, he's doing well with a great Palace team at the moment, and all credit to him, but he wouldn't be achieving this kind of success at Newcastle. He had four years and wasn't taking them anywhere.

It's also telling that every single person who says "they're missing Pardew" is not a Toon fan. As if they're more knowledgeable about a club than their own fans.

You're just cherry-picking info. Sure, I can do that too: You conveniently forget to mention that before that 6 wins in a row, he guided Newcastle to just ONE win in FIFTEEN consecutive PL matches across the two seasons, and that was against relegated Cardiff. You don't mention that he oversaw Newcastle losing to LOWER LEAGUE OPPOSITION in the first round of League/FA Cups five years running.

Also, what's the point of beating Chelsea once when we keep losing derbies to Sunderland and other relegation-scrapping teams? He has overseen some of the worst runs of results in Newcastle United history, so don't be blinded by a few good results here and there. While at Newcastle he only managed to get 1 win out of 8 attempts against Sunderland, including 4 consecutive losses which has NEVER BEFORE HAPPENED in NUFC history.

Cabaye and the players guided Newcastle to 6th. Once he left Pardew showed that he didn't know what to do with the team.

You can't judge him as a bad manager when the direction keeps selling the key players of the team .. what I want to say is : give a manager the resources to build a successful team and then judge him .. I mean, except Cissé and Sissoko the whole squad is honestly poor : in contrast, he was offered great talents at Palace and this is the result ;)

Ridiculous argument. Southampton, Everton, Liverpool, Spurs all sold key players and are doing fine. Newcastle's net spend under Pardew was a lot more than the managers before him had. "Great talents at Palace"?!?! Newcastle's squad cost a heck of a lot more than Palace's. Also, no one wanted to sell Cabaye. He wanted to leave for PSG. Same for Ba - Chelsea invoked a release clause. Look where both of them are at now, having given up assured first team football for time on the bench at "top clubs", now realise that they'd rather be getting playing time a tier lower.

@Logic: "Southampton, Everton, Liverpool, Spurs all sold key players and are doing fine." Um, well. Only kinda sorta. Saints sold a bunch, and bought a bunch, and changed managers... and are exactly in the same place, so are a bad example for either side of the argument. Everton didn't really sell anyone 'key' in the sense you're talking about, because Cahill wasn't THAT good, and either way, have failed to progress. Liverpool lost Suarez and tumbled down the table dramatically, and although Spurs are progressing nicely NOW, we struggled badly after losing Bale and Modric. Considering what Pardew is accomplishing at Palace with a fraction of the budget he had at Newcastle, it's a bit hard to blame him for Toon's failures. It's probably more to do with the club culture (remember Robson?)

The same club culture that saw Newcastle register the third-highest attendances across all divisions even when they were in the championship? If you're talking about Ashley - definitely, he's poison. But Newcastle's net spend under Pardew was substantial, and they've only stagnated/regressed under him, so there's no compelling argument to say he was doing a good job then. Sure, he's doing a good job now (or at least appearing to, like he did the season Newcastle secured Europa), but we know that different managers are suited to different teams. Will elaborate in next post.

The season Newcastle finished 6th, he didn't have to tinker with the team at all. Cabaye and Tiote were pulling strings in midfield and the attacking triumvirate of Ben Arfa, Ba and Cisse worked like a charm game after game. Then once he decided to mix things up, shaft Ba down the wing where he was less effective, things fell apart. Ben Arfa was one of our best flair players and Pardew alienated him. Yanga-Mbiwa was a great defender but never was given a chance by Pardew - he later went on to Roma to finish high up in the league and play regularly in Europe. He doesn't know how to use his players; just lets them do the work as Cabaye has shown capable of doing. Sissoko is best used in central midfield; for over a season Pardew played him on the wing which coincided with his loss in form.

Hell, he has relegated Charlton and only secured survival with West Ham on the last day of the season in a team containing both Mascherano and Tevez, including bringing them to a worst run of results in 70 years of their history! Point is, he has had a track record of not being able to use his players effectively. When a team is good and performing well, I contend that they do so in spite of him, rather than because of him.

The key difference now is he used to play for Palace and is something of a cult hero amongst their fans, so I believe he's suited for that sort of job. He never really gained popularity at Newcastle precisely because of his diabolical run of results, which people never seem to mention when they talk about a one-season success based more on Cabaye than Pardew himself.

@Logic: I'm certainly not disagreeing with your point about certain managers being suited to certain teams, and I have nothing against Newcastle, so I hope it didn't sound like I did. I just think that when the leaving manager has done well over 2 seasons with his new club, and the club he left behind has continued to have issues, then it's hard to blame him instead of, say, the board who sold his players. Anyhow, sounds like you know more about Pardew's managerial history than I do, so fair enough.

Logic 8 years ago
The thing is that Pardew had one good season with the club, and then stagnated/regressed the two years after that. It came to a point where fans decided that he wasn't suitable for the job. (And he was second-longest serving manager at a single PL club behind Wenger at that point, so to say he didn't have time would be ridiculous.) Managers get dismissed in shorter times than that (Rodgers at Pool, etc).

You're right that Newcastle has deeper issues including that of the board, which is well-known, but it is hard to say that Pardew was not at all responsible for the situation given his last 2 seasons at the club. Fair to say he's doing well now, but I think we just get a little annoyed that people are so quick to presume that Toon fans "miss Pardew" just because of the current situation.
