I don't get the hype around Antoine. I've honestly seen him play several times and he was just alright. Also, since many of you are EPL elitists (dead serious, not trying to provoke) what if I told you that he has 16 goals this year and his career-high is 22 in La Liga? Is this the man you want to pay top money for?! Just get yourself a Lacazette.

I'm truthfully honest you guys. I don't see the hype. Morata has similar stats while coming off the bench. Not to mention the fact that he is about 26 right now.

Before anyone attacks me, I want to say that I'm in class as we speak so I won't be able to go in-depth. But just to add some small points:

  1. Griezmann doesn't play in a system that helps him offensively. Atletico Madrid is known to be a defensive team with many defensive-minded players.
  2. Since he is the main striker, defenses tend to focus on him more. Carrasco is a nice, quick player but that's as far as it gets when it comes to major offensive help.

That being said, I'm still kind of critical of him. More updates when I'm done class (I'll create a separate thread as I don't want to distract from the main point of this thread)

I'd rather get Lacazette as well, specially because EPL depends more on physicality and strength of the player. However he would fit in a team with 2 strikers, pair him with Giroud would be great as we seen in national team but still.

The hype ? He is a 10 not a 9 and that's a huge difference, we don't ask a 10 to score 20 goals a season except aliens, for a poacher even Torres in a good season can reach 30 goals, Dzeko, Cavani so it's not exactly same job. 10's create chances, 9's finish them. Some 10's are having 9's stats but these 10's are one of 1 million. Because starting the actions to finish them that amount of times means that you are out of this world.
Griezmann is a solid 10, best player of the Euro, best scorer of the Euro 7 goals, 10 goals in last year CL, qualifying Atletico to CL final. 3 rd in BO ahead of Suarez Neymar and all the stars... he is fairly hyped imo.
Griezmann = Hazard job
Torres / Gameiro = Costa job
So if you judge only on stats 15 goals for a 10 is very strong. Specially his goals who were important.

@Chelsea8 The ban doesn't include the selling of players. Atletico will hate this guy if he leaves them in this window lol

@legends16 I was in a class called "Communications Across Cultures" and it is an elective. I'm getting most of my electives out of the way this summer.

@tiki_taka

1) I don't recall ever seeing him play the 10 (Mind you, I haven't seen him play a LOT). Atleti plays the 4-4-2 often with Antoine and Gamiro/Torres upfront. Sure, he also plays the CAM, but I'm mainly talking about what he usually plays.
2) Stats don't tell the entire story, thats true. But try to compare that with previous Ateltico players from Diego Simeone era and you'll see that he has the least amount of impact on that team.
3) Still when compared to other 10's, it seems like other players like James are putting up similar performances with less minutes. Again, that maybe due to the difference between the team styles/ each teams weapons up front.
4) I'm aware of his performance both in the euros and the cl. I think the term "overrated" is misunderstood these days. Something or someone can be over hyped and still be among the best. Grizemann is no different, an amazing versatile talent that is given a little more credit than he deserves.
5) Let's face it, Tiki. You and I know that he didn't deserve to be a finalist on UEFA player of the year or balon d'or. Suarez put up his best individual season putting up 40 and 15 in the league alone yet he wasn't considered a top 3 level.

Looks like I won't do a thread on this as this info is sufficient. There's one more thing I'd like to mention to everyone and especially to Tiki: Antoine Grizemann is not even comparable to a healthy, in-his-prime Benzema(2010-2014) or Luis Suarez who I think are as versatile or maybe even more than Antoine. Those two players are better ball handlers, better chance creators, more physical, more complete, etc yet no one talks about them as much as they talk about Grizemann. THAT's my definition of overratedness (if that's a word). If you don't like it come at me then.

I actually agree with most of your points, but I think comparing him to being "just alright" is a little too harsh. I also feel he is a little overrated but not to that level.

He could have won it France won the euro or Atletico won CL on pks. I posted a highlight on his last year season he was completely untouchable and it's not because he is French, Atletico won 3 Madrid derbies out of 4 loosing only in the fourth by pks in CL, motm in 2 of the 4. Against Bayern he scored the goal that lifted Atletico in the final, 10 goals in a defensive team in CL, a brace against Germany in the Euro, best player of the tournament. 3 Player of the month in Spain...

Frankly you have short memory or subjective way of looking to games or maybe we don't have same definition of overrated...
2016 was his best season but hey a poacher with 35 goals half of it on games decided on half time is probably stronger, we can have different opinions as much as I find yours biased or strange I respect it, hope it's the same.

I invite you to look for an extended 2016 highlights with as much games as possible, i bet you would change your mind.

@Amir Yea, I know lol. I kinda got carried away with my rant. But if you see the 4th point of my last comment, I think I gave my actual opinion on him.

@Tiki I have no reason to be biased whatsoever. If I give honest, unbiased opinions on my rivals performance like Barcelona and it's players I shouldn't find a reason to be biased towards others. Like I've said, I'm just judging him based on a few (about 10) games that I have seen him in. I know what kind of talent that he is and I appreciate true talent when I see it.

The one thing I have to ask you for is to comment on my last statement. Do you agree with the comparison that I have made? If so, to me at least, that's why I think he is a little overrated. When a young healthy Benzema was not rated at his peak, or when Luis Suarez is finally giving Messi and Ronaldo a good competiton, or when Neymar is given less credit than him... You tell me man.

Well I just reminds you that he is a that level not long time ago, i appreciate the Benz 2010-14 but Benz is older and more experienced.

2015/16 : Griezmann has been elected best player of La liga, won the award, and carried his team in rebuilding to 3rd place 3 pts far from Barca, same year scored 10 in CL, he has not Madrid midlefield to feed him so probably banged more in those circumstances, Best player of the Euro and believe he was third in BO but if he won CL or Euro, only one of these finals lost on pks luck or killer ET goal, he would have been BO. His last year season for me was the best, better than the BO himself that was given by Ramos in Ramos time in the final.
So no, I repeat it, he is not overrated, since his breakthrough he kept a high level and consistency. He is on Neymar and co Level without any problem.

For me overrated is a player having a good season and doesn't confirm at the point of remaining an exception to his career, Griezmann kept progressing until reaching BO podium, this season is not as good but remains pretty solid. In Spain everyone knows his worth since last year liga award win. AND it was deserved.

Arsenal apparently bid 100M € for Mbappe, yes you're reading it right.

0

Barcelona, France 367 9768

Most probable move for Mbappe, he said " I WANT PLAYING TIME " when asked about a move, the journalist insisted : training with the best does not compensate your progression ? And Mbappe repeated same sentence again. Arsenal would be perfect for him.
