Neymar charged with tax fraud. All assets frozen.

A Brazilian court froze nearly $50 million of assets held by Barcelona superstar Neymar on Friday because of allegations of tax evasion.

Rob Harris of the Associated Press revealed the court's decision. The AP's Mauricio Savarese noted a Sao Paulo federal court claimed Neymar evaded nearly $16 million in taxes between 2011 and 2013.

Judge Carlos Muta stated the Brazil international, who joined Barca from Santos in 2013, "is solely responsible for the income declaration," according to Savarese. It is alleged the forward had only declared assets of around $5 million.

However, the player's parents claimed the judge possesses an "incorrect understanding" of their son's earnings, adding: "Neymar did not avoid paying taxes, and neither did any of our companies," per BBC News.

The AP report stated the assets frozen by the Brazilian court also included those of Neymar's family and "related businesses." No further information was provided about the investigation.

That makes 2 out of 3 of Barcelona's forward trio of MSN to be accused of and charged with tax fraud.

It seems Neymar is really taking a liking to Barcelona's Messi. In addition to tax fraud, he has also missed a penalty yesterday.

The Neymar transfer was very dodgy from the start. But in all honesty i don't think the big stars ever really care about any of this. It always gets settled with a slap on the wrist. And Brazil is filled with illegitimate schemes to avoid taxes.

This is coming from Brazil, tiki_taka. I don't see how that's relevant to Barcelona's support of Catalunya's independence.

Please, please, tell me this is Real Madrid's doing, too.

Never understood why it's so difficult to pay taxes for the rich. You have dozens of millions of dollars left in the bank, after the taxes are paid. Why not just cough up the money? Jeez.

It's not just Neymar and Messi who avoid paying taxes, it's rich people in general who shelter their money through corporations. It doesn't make you bad to avoid paying taxes if you could, it just means you don't want your money in corrupted selfish hands of the politicians and global bankers.

And the bald haircut is supposedly linked with someone in his family who has cancer.

OMG, Another one.

Barcelona's Javier Mascherano has officially been charged with two counts of tax fraud for an amount totalling over €1.5 million, according to Spanish outlet AS (h/t ESPN FC).
According to the report, the Argentina international tried to conceal earnings from his image rights, using overseas companies to do so. Mascherano hasn't made any public comments regarding the charges, but he has already paid the tax that was owed back, along with a fine, which should work in his favour should the case go to court. The news comes just days after team-mate Neymar had $50 million of his assets frozen in a tax-evasion investigation, per Brazilian outlet Globoesporte (h/t Sports Illustrated). Per ESPN FC, star forwardLionel Messi faces similar allegations, while manager Luis Enrique has also reached a settlement with the Spanish government in a similar case.

Real Madrid star grilled in tax fraud probe

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been questioned in Zagreb by anti-graft police in connection with a probe into Dinamo Zagreb officials suspected of bribery and tax evasion, local papers reported Thursday. Modric, whose testimony is considered key for the case, was questioned on the financial details of his 2009 transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, the Jutarnji list daily reported. The anti-graft prosecutors suspect that Dinamo Zagreb chief Zdravko Mamic illegally earned more than 52 million kunas ($6.9 million euros, $7.7 million), through the transfer. Modric was questioned on Sunday, the paper reported. Another Croatian international, Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren, was also to be questioned within the probe, it said. Zdravko Mamic, his younger brother Zoran, the Croatian champions' coach, along with a top football federation official and a tax inspector are suspected by the national anti-corruption USKOK bureau of giving and receiving bribes, tax evasion and other offences. The suspected criminal offences had been taking place since 2008. The alleged offences cost Dinamo Zagreb and the state almost 15.5 million euros and two million euros respectively. The four suspects were all detained in July, and later released on bail. Zdravko Mamic, considered the most influential man in Croatian football, has rejected the allegations against him. See Also: Real Madrid and Manchester United blame each other over failed De Gea deal The 56-year-old Dinamo executive president said they were politically motivated and accused Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic of being behind them. Mamic is a controversial figure well known for his outspoken behaviour and threatening of journalists. Last year he was convicted of slander and ordered to pay 17,000 euros to a lawyer representing Brazil-born Croatian striker Eduardo da Silva. In 2014, he was acquitted of inciting hatred with a slur against an ethnic Serb minister.

90% of multimillionaires have seret accounts very hard to find, Football players included. You lived in Disneyland till now, time to wake up.

Btw i have many cases about your beloved president, how he approched some captains for BO, how his influence works in Spain, how he benefitted from self benefit for his own company in colombia thanks to James signing and the arrangement with some Colombian cartels, how '' ugly players '' in his eyes like Di Maria or Ozil were silently showed the exit, how he ruined Ancelotti's control on the dressing room, how he is not fair play in term of off pith competition.........

I can post 5 scandals about Madrid per day if you are interested in soap operas non related to pitch issues. Of course if you are interested in all cases not just Barça's ones...

If you dont like peaceful cohabitation between archrival fans, we can make it spicy.
