Kante - Jorginho - Kovacic

I'm so looking forward to see them play together, just wow. great defensive, offensive & creative players. Now that we signed Kepa too I'm very optimistic that Sarri won't take too long to get results. We just need a good finisher and we are ready.

Lol Chelsea fans reacted the same way when Morata was signed from Madrid (expecting him to be some kind of savior). I warned Chelsea fans that at best Morata will replicate Diego Costa's goal-scoring numbers or ratio.

And now we have the same situation with myself warning Chelsea fans not to overreact to Mateo Kovacic's transfer... I'm curious to see how this pans out.

That’s why we got him on loan.

Heck, even if Kovacic don't live up to the hype, Chelsea got so much backup, Barkley, Fabregas, Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Loftus-Cheek. Pretty sure at least one of them will work well with Kante and Jorginho.

@Dynastian,

There is a reason he rarely got playing time when Luka, Kroos, Isco, and Casemiro were all healthy.

I'd pretty much say he didn't play often because every one of these is best/near best in their roles... can't see much space for any other midfielder of Kovačić's age to break through there, and especially not with RM's ambitions. I'd also say that one thing bothering me is Kovačić's confidence, atleast from what I've seen of him in Croatia's jersey, because his best game for national team was in 2014. Since then, he had multiple chances to show his talent replacing Modrić, but never really cut it for me. Sometimes I'd also say since he and Modrić carry different style and in Croatia where Rakitić was playing out of position, and Badelj was playing over Brozović for years, he couldn't fit in.

In RM shirt I've honestly seen him regressing a bit, which I would again say is because of his confidence. He is literally best dribbler on Croatian team. Another thing he needs to fix is his shooting, which is kinda meh.

I think Jorginho and Kante around him will help him hugely, because all three are very good defensively but Kovačić will have that main role in driving ball forward, and if everything works fine, it might be what Chelsea was missing, because now I see Hazard having more freedom and space, which only benefits Chelsea. Hope it turns out best for all parties, because if he does impress in Chelsea, he can replace Modrić when he returns (if Modrić drops his level, which might not happen considering how long he's been keeping his form).

what's the point of getting Kovacic for loan then? He will come back to Madrid anyway, so you give playing time to someone else and let your own players sit on the bench...

No one can replace Modric in his position, its perfection each touch of the game. I believe Kovacic made time before understanding that. Having a key role would show his real potential and what he actually learned at Madrid, because even as a bench player you learn just from training, pressure, dressing room proffesionalism, talks... Kovacic is ready to shine for another club, but the problem is that Madrid only loaned him, which is sharp buisness from Perez.
Now Madrid has to sign a replacement, for him, probably take a youngster profile or pick from La Cantera.

@Quickzy Selling Kovacic now while being on Croatia bench and Madrid, would be a waste just like James Rodriguez. his value could reach 100m next year easily and then Madrid can decide to value or to bring him back. fact is that he is still young so Perez wont let a player he didnt want to sell because of a player will, i guess his contract is well written.

Perez is the best president in planet football, i think its obvious for a while now...

It's the first time someone on loan gives a farewell to his club that has the contract with. Apparently we had an option to buy but no one wanted to reveal it neither RM or CFC. just strange but I like to keep him, he is a fantastic player. even for someone who doesn't understand football they would realize he is an upgrade to Bakayoko. He already feels like home at Chelsea and that makes me happy.

@SarriBall Sure sound like he leaving Real forever. :O Hope he work out at Chelsea though. ;)

@tiki Propably won't be give one, also, I'm not convinced at all he would even fit Sarri playstyle. Maybe as a backup player for when Kante is injured?

I think Bakayoko could go on loan to AC Milan, @tiki he is good defensively but under pressure his passing is so bad, and you prolly familiar with attacking football as you support Barca, what happens if everyone going forward keeping the ball and then one player just miss pass and makes so many errors? conceding goals like that is not really worth it, all the players play their heart out for 90 mins for nothing, just for someone to make an unnecessary error. As I said, he is a good player but only fits defensive style or slow playing style or counter attacking football, but surely fast paced style isn't his strength.

@Tiki

I really liked Bakayoko at Monaco but he wasn't great last season, and definitely won't be great under Sarriball from what we have seen so far. He can make tackles, and burst forward after winning possession, but one touch passing, tactical awareness and confidence are some things we haven't seen from him here. Plus I can't count the number of times he's made errors leading to goals, which has really annoyed our fanbase.

He's a good player in his own way, but he does not fit in our system.

It all comes down to Sarri making a team, the names on paper won't win games and even if the club in general solved a lot of problems this summer, it's still not a guarantee that a potent striker capable of taking the pressure off from the defense will be present in the squad, be it either Morata or Giroud.

I'm very impressed by the signing of Kepa, top 3 goalkeeper in La Liga to join Chelsea just like that, was a massive statement.

On top of that Kovacic leaving Madrid was also a big deal since he is one of the best midfielders in La Liga as well, stats don't lie of course but even so I'm really curious to see exactly how much can Kovacic do in a more physical league.
My bet is that Sarri is very happy to get him since for his tactics it's crucial to have players with pace both with the ball and in movement and that is exactly the qualities that Kovacic has.
The squad will fit for Sarri to focus on getting a specialist role for Kovacic, something that nobody dared to do before mostly because he has a range of qualities and strenghts as a player.

It will take time to make this team work but if the overall concept of Sarri does get to work, we should be capable of getting a realisation of a better Chelsea team than last season, which in it's own right should be enough for a top 4 finish, I don't think there is enough quality to win the title, best case scenario is 4th placement in the end of the season.

Bakayoko already was given chances and has surprised us plenty, time for him to surprise another club. We want to share the joy of having such an unpredictable player in your squad.

If Madrid signs another midfielder this transfer window then yea Kovacic won't be back. I don't think there is an option to buy at the end of the loan because Madrid are hoping he can up his market value while at Chelsea and then sell him to the highest bidder at the end of his loan.

@Yvan21 Well, lets hope it work out better than when Monaco loaned Falcao to Chelsea in that case. :P
