Good win for the USA. I'm not a fan of Klinsmann, but you gotta give him his due for getting out of the group stages. Although I think Altidore getting hurt was a blessing in disguise.

If I were the US, I would've drawn: now they're going to get ravaged by Argentina in the semis.

The popularity for soccer/football in America is growing and so is the team. The more interest America gets into a sport we adapt. Not saying they're top class yet but way better from what it was a decade ago

A great first half, and created chances even down a man. Defense was good, but that's partly down to tireless work by Bradley and Jones. Brooks is a beast, especially in the air and on 1-on-1's. Other part is that Paraguay was not a very good attacking team. Couldn't break down a 10-man US team after ~50 minutes. They had 4 dangerous chances all game: 1 v 3 in first half was stopped by Brooks, one ball crossed in to a slightly offside player, and the Guzan double-save.

With Costa Rica's win, USA TOP THE GROUP!!!!!

I don't understand the high-praise for the United States. Wholeheartedly agree that they deserve praise for their defense (Guzan and Brooks, really) but to vote that they were Top Class and that they played a great game? Come-on now. The finishing from Paraguay was horrid; but the team created numerous chances and kept the U.S. on the back-foot the entire game; prior/regardless to Yedlin being ridiculous with those challenges and getting sent-off. They had a chance and put it away; Dempsey's always been clinical and super dependent. I just wish people were a little more level-headed on here at times.

(I do see that Depay in the Sky saw that the US was nowhere to be found, kuddos.)

Now you south Americans cry with BS excuses when CONCACAF teams kick your butt. Just face it, actually other than Argies/Brazil , US/Mexico/Costa Rica/Panama are above you. Face it- the US kicked your butt. well deserved.

and don't bring me BS about Costa Rica, they owned Uruguay/England/Italy in the last WC. and 3 of 4 CONCACAF teams went to the second round.

These highlights do no justice to the USA team, they were down a man the whole second half, get defensive stand won them that game.

Depay in the Sky 8 years ago
Great game from the US goalkeeper. Other than that the US was no where to be found. It's gonna become very hard for the US to depend so heavily upon their goalkeeper against bigger teams, but it's nice to see they're through to the next round. If the US finishes second they'll face Brazil.

The referee could not save Paraguay... USA was too good

the US soccer culture is known for being all muscles, no technique. thats why they complain about "winy divers" all day long. they cant handle the fact, that they suck at technique and cant get their way with brawling their way through the game

^This. I never want to see Altidore playing for us again. Massively overrated. And I don't think anyone rates him as is.

@Chris

Nah, he's a holdup player with potential uses as a sub off the bench, or with specific lineup combinations, like with Bobby Wood up top in a 4-4-2 a la Altidore/Davies in 2009.

On form, he's a great goalscorer for us. Off-form and he's a sub at best. Plus, he's a nice guy and the team likes him, so him in the 23 at least as a sub is good for chemistry.

I agree that he has gotten better at holding play up. I would just rather see Wood or Morris get minutes to see what they can do. But fair point. Seems rare to me that he's actually in form, though.
