Match facts

Manchester City

  • Manchester City have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League for the fourth season in a row. However, they have finished top of their group only once (2015/16). It's also the first time Pep Guardiola hasn't secured top spot in a Champions League group campaign as manager.
  • Manchester City are unbeaten in their last seven Champions League home games (W5 D2), their longest run without a defeat in the competition at the Etihad. They can win all three of their home games in a Champions League group stage for the first time.
  • Manchester City have also only conceded one goal in their five Champions League home games in 2016, it was scored by Lionel Messi.
  • Manchester City have won their final group game in four of their five previous Champions League campaigns (L1).
  • Sergio Agüero has scored in only one of his last six Champions League games at the Etihad (hat-trick v Borussia Mönchengladbach).

Celtic

  • Celtic's only away win against English opposition in the European Cup/Champions League was in the 1969/70 semi-final when they beat Leeds at Elland Road (1-0).
  • Since then, Celtic have lost their two trips to England in Europe's premier competition, both times conceding exactly three goals against Manchester Utd.
  • The game between Manchester City and Celtic last September produced six goals (3-3) and no card. Hoops striker Moussa Dembélé scored with his two shots of the game.
  • Celtic have lost 26 of their 29 Champions League games away from home (W1 D2) and have never kept a clean sheet.
  • Celtic are winless in their last eight Champions League games, which equals their longest run without a victory in the competition.
  • Celtic have also failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 18 Champions League games, their longest run without a shut-out in the competition.
  • Brendan Rodgers has won only one of his 11 group games as manager in the Champions League, that was against Ludogorets Razgrad (2-1) in September 2014 when he was in charge of Liverpool.
  • Moussa Dembélé has scored three of Celtic's four goals in this season's Champions League.

Predictions

Manchester City will be keen to bounce back from the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea on the weekend, while also keen to maintain their unbeaten record at home in this season’s Champions League.

Pep Gaurdiola’ side has been off-colour lately, but they do have a chance to gain some confidence from this fixture with a win as Celtic are one of the worst away sides in the Champions League.

No surprises are expected here as in the first leg at Glasgow, City to win is a straight pick for this fixture.

Final Score – 3 : 1
