Not sure what all the hate for English teams is about. Atalanta played brilliantly and thoroughly deserved their win, regardless of the results in the Champions League, it's good to see Italian teams back and the league thriving again.

As for the England thing, it's football and anything can happen. We did well enough in the latest rounds and football goes in cycles, I feel we can have a stronger competition this year.

Let's face it, who wants to see Real and Barca win it every year...It just gets boring.

andrea petagna is such an underrated forward, a real testament to 1) serie a 2) atalanta. such a smooth operator, fantastic touch and a good deal of power. they don't make players like that really anywhere else, closest comparison i can think of is giroud

Everton were poor. They have no inspiration. So much spending. No real team play. They aren't the same. There was a reason Rooney wasn't played as much at United last season. He is well passed it now. Everton lack a proper striker... Tactics were terrible. No inspiration. Almost walked into the game expecting to win. Fair play Atalanta. Everton should be seriously competing in this competition because they won't be getting top 6 in the PL this season by the looks of it.

Does anyone remember when the newspapers were convinced that Everton were going to challenge for the Top 4, because of all the money they spent? Remember how (just like Liverpool when they sold Suarez) they were tipped for success because they weren't Doing A Spurs, and were Buying With Purpose etc?

Personally I like Everton and want them to do well, but it sure does make for some tasty popcorn to watch all the media/internet narratives get swept aside by reality. Needs more salt, though.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Everton is the Liverpool and Liverpool is the Everton for this year. So not much changed. Tottenham is much better than both and will finish top3 again.

Now let me hear another one (idiot) saying that I'm wrong when I say that when it comes to a quality & competitiveness, Serie A is right there after EPL, thanks to the gigantic leap forward that's been happening in the Italian football in the last few years and the completely changed approach in the style of playing, from defensive to ultra-offensive (when it became the most prolific league in Europe's finest)! The only difference is the poor stadiums we still see in Italy, but luckily, a change is beginning to happen in this field as well. Atalanta is one of the (rare) examples, beginning to reconstruct their stadium from this year on - which is why they're playing 1 500 km away from home. So practically today, both teams were guests, but we saw nothing from Everton!
Bravo Atalanta!

Napoli lost, Juve lost and those are the best teams from Serie A. You pretty just ignored that and are now holding on Europa leagues games like it matters more than CL...you make up stuff just like the so called country you claim to be from...

Golazo111...name one english team who could win in the opening group stage game away to Barcelona. SSC Napoli choked, Juve should still progress.

ok lets look at the facts...At some point pace can only do so much. Look at average Atalanta raping Everton today (yes I get it its europa league) the point of tactics is still the same though.
while no other italian team could beat any EPL teams, Juve can't be beat by one demential teams.
Also, Juve had 6 players out yesterday.
cheers.

@Dimitri7: Let us know when any Italian team other than Juve makes it past the Round of 16 in the CL, since that hasn't happened since 2011/12. Hell, Serie A didn't even get more than 2 teams into the Group Stage last season, and you have to go back until 2014/15 to even find an Italian team who got past the Round of 16 even in the EL.

See, I wouldn't have pointed this out to you, but, you decided to be a d*ck, so... :)

@Cuore: What point about tactics? English clubs don't rely on pace; Italian teams just generally lack any.

EPL coefficient is slipping and Serie A is going up, hence why top four leagues gets four spots for champions league next season. The tide is slowly turning.

I think you haven't looked at the coefficient for a while. ;) The gap is not shrinking, and the only reason it isn't bigger is because of Juventus.

EPL is just lucky to have arab/russian/china money, thats all...

oh, and the last time an english team won the CL (2011-12) it was thanks to an italian

"EPL is just lucky to have arab/russian/china money, thats all..."

Actually the majority of the PL's money comes from TV rights, because everyone wants to watch it, because it's the most popular and competitive league in the world.

You're lucky that we invented the sport. :)

"oh, and the last time an english team won the CL (2011-12) it was thanks to an italian"

No it wasn't. It was thanks to their team, of which RdM was simply the interim manager. That same team came 6th in the English league, that year. Has an Italian team ever won the CL and yet not made their Top 4?

What's that? No? Well, English teams did it twice (2005 and 2012) in just 8 years. Sorry. :)

@Golazo111 If you followed my comments from last night, you'd see what I've said about the other Italian teams in CL. SO I won't talk about it anymore- there's no point!
@Lodatz Not one, but everyone from the big 5, plus Lazio! You're just too dumb to see it, obviously!
I could tell you a hell of a lot more, but I won't get into such an idiotic debate, the way you've started?! You can't see why?
Well, we've just saw, and now we're all commenting on a match between the 3rd strongest Italian team in EL, KICKING THE SHIT out of 2nd (in reality, also 3rd) English strongest team in EL, and even more, they both played in a stadium (a pitch) which isn't theirs - yes, it's in Italy, but still, when you come to think that Atalnta has played there only once these last 12+months, and Everton none...

Couldn't agree more mate. I have been saying for years that Serie A has one of the most competitive (bar Juve) domestic leagues. It's underrated by idiots who's opinion is not worth listening to anyway. True football fans with an ounce of independent thought can see how competitive it is, glad to see it is back on the rise.
