England should thank Van Gaal for Rashford.

I remember how well England played in the friendlies last world cup - beating bigs teams, looking strong. This is by far a better team, but they lack experience and the defence is the weakness in the chain. I like the team Southgate put together, but I can't see them winning the trophy!

I seriously hope rashford moves to a more ambitious club! he is being wasted at a lousy team like utd who wont win anything for the next 4-5 years, may be more

Lol. I see your point, but you are a little blind, He already has 4 trophies at Manutd in the last 3 years. No club in England has more in that period. And the only club that wins more is PSG Juventus and Barca. They dont want rashford. Should he leave for playing time? yes he should but not for trophies.

England are superior to Germany and Spain as they both have aging squad. France and Brazil will be the main rival of englsnd in wc

Winning the trophy is one thing, but seeing an improved England squad is something to be praised for. If Southgate can show that his England squad can at least fight for their country, then I'd say it's a huge step for England as a whole.

Yeah I think no one really has the feeling that we'll win the WC. We always have high expectations and good friendly games before a major comp that makes us really confident. But most times our squads have been the choice of just big names from big clubs and that's it. We've had incredible talent over the last decade and they never worked well together. Finally we have a fresh team with a fresh manager. I have no expectations for this WC now, which is great since I can just watch and see how we play, how confident we are, and what the future can hold. This is the first real competition for England in the new era. Al though, I wouldn't be too happy with us going out in the group stages...

England winning this will be a mother of all upsets and portugal will lose even that credential for their Euros. Poor Ronaldo

I hardly dare say it but I hold some tangible optimism for England this world cup. Could we make quarters?

Great goal from Rashford! Hopefully he will shine during the World Cup tournament along with Jones, Young and Lingard!
