Match facts

Schalke 04

  • Before Di Matteo took over at FC Schalke 04, his team drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge on matchday one. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar equalised after Cesc Fàbregas had opened the scoring.
  • Schalke have won four and lost three since Roberto Di Matteo was appointed on 7 October. All the wins have come at home, all the losses away.
  • Huntelaar and Boateng are both a booking away from a suspension.
  • Draxler suffered a thigh injury after only 11 seconds against FC Augsburg on 25 October and will be sidelined until the end of the year.

Chelsea

  • The clubs met in last season's group stage with Chelsea winning 3-0 in Germany – Eden Hazard getting the final goal.
  • The Blues are 18 matches unbeaten in 2014/15, winning 14. They have not lost since April's UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg defeat at home against Club Atlético de Madrid.
  • Filipe Luís is a booking away from a suspension.
  • Fàbregas has reached ten assists in just 12 top-flight appearances this season; faster than any other player in a single Premier League campaign.

Predictions

Expect Chelsea to clinch qualification with a victory over the manager who led them to their first and only Champions League title to date.

It’s likely to be a lively affair as Di Matteo will get his players up for the match, while their confidence will be high after winning at the weekend.

However the Chelsea attack is so potent and Schalke have been vulnerable at the back this season. The likes of Hazard, Oscar and Fabregas can create chances at will, and when you have Diego Costa in front of such creative talent, goals are all but guaranteed.

Final Score – 1 : 3

Blue is the colour. If we win this, we will be through to the next round and essentially, guaranteed the top spot

I always hated mid-week matches unlike MU games, but this week, its all about to get fun. Can't wait MU to get to UCL. Next year, everybody would like it strong and perfect. Just wait and see...

Schalke 04 recently beat Wolfsburg (2nd best team in the Bundesliga), so they might have a chance at least getting a point from the match. Nonetheless, I think Chelsea will have the edge, winning 2-1.

Indeed they did. 3 fast goals but then the game was all about Wolfsburg catching up. Possesion 36%-64%. Shots 7-14. Cornors 2-7.. but I'd say 1-2 as well..

Ramires is an incredible play disruptor and Schurrle really shines more as a second half sub. Not to mention Ramires is more in line with Mourinho's style of play.

Schurrle is doing shi*.. did you see his last 3 or 4 matches? Mourinho gave him his chance to prove himself, he just didn't take it

It will be a very interesting and difficult match, but Chelsea needs all the 3 points to call it a day. Final result will be a 1-3 in favour of Chelsea. This will make us top the group and make the last game academic.

It will be interesting to see Di Matteo's squad against his former club.

It's a very awkward situation to go against a man who help you win your very first CL in an IMPOSSIBLE situation but I am sure Chelsea are professionals and will get the job done and will qualify for the last 16.
