The line between "Asia" and "Oceania" has changed over time. We're just not used to thinking of Australia as an "Asian country" because most Australians have immigrated from Europe. Geographically Australia is at the bottom of Asia and it makes perfect sense of Australia to be part of the Asian Cup.

they call it "soccer"they use football or 'footy' for another sport - australian rules football. more like rugby (oval ball, holding / handling allowed, tackles allowed). it's played on an oval ground and in my opinion is one of the most exciting sports to watch (once you wrap your head around the rules).. bloody rough though, i wouldn't play it.

Its football or soccer. Three other codes use football as a term of reference and that is generally geographically determined (most popular code in that region = football). But all "soccer/footballers" call it football. The general public who couldn't care less refer to it as soccer. It's the most participated national sport however.
