I Hate arrogant people like you. The word "soccer" is an English word, short for "AsSOCiation Football" (the proper name of the sport) We use it because we already had another kind of Football back home, American Football, which derivation of "Rugby Football." (There are many types of football as you can see) Other countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand also use it because they have other types of football like Canadian Football and Australian Rules Football and it'd be confusing to call both sports "football." I use SOCCER when talking to Aussies and American and FOOTBALL when talking to European's friends so please STOP BEING HATEFUL AND IGNORANT OVER A WORD.

I agree, Americans think too highly of themselves and just never quite get it. They make the game game feel dirty. I think much of the nation have psychotic tendencies and are index a buch of retards. American football is rugby for girls. Baseball is rounders for sissies :-)

I don't know why Shea hasn't cracked the starting lineup more and why Bradley is still playing for the national team. Shea has always consistently performed when called up and Bradley has ALWAYS consistently UNDERperformed. Bradley's performance in the WC was lackluster at best. He was a ghost. Jurgen needs to take another look at that midfield and stop calling up the same people. There is no one for the US midfield who can control the game. The game is one in the midfield and the same players keep getting deployed there with the same underwhelming results.

I'm liking how our football federation is making us play against strong teams in Europe!! (Netherlands and Germany next) It's a great learning experience. Great goal by Shea. Stupid Altidore acting like a brat and letting his team down. This matches will prepare us for the Gold Cup.

When in your country there ARE another types of sport called "Football" and implictly ranked over the real Football (well, football meant to be played only by feet. and thats where the name comes from), that means exactly that USA will win nothing from the real "football". How to call a sport is of course your own right. but until u accept this first sport of world also the first sport of your own country.. then u have the right of talking about winning and respecting this game. I disagree Meyer. Americans have voracious appetites for sports and for producing athletes. Right now soccer's behind the NHL as the 5th most lucrative sport. If it can get to 3rd, around the NBA level, the US will be able to start competing for World Cups.

Football started around the same time that soccer came to the United States, and we played a proto form of rugby before that, so it's no surprise we had to make another term for two distinct games.
