Is it just me or is Guardiola building a team full of Midfielders?

Pep Guardiola seems to be making a team of mids. Here is Barcelona's starting lineup.
Victor Valdes - Goalkeeper
Dani Alves - A winger dressed as a full back
Eric Abidal - The only true defender
Javier Mascherano - Defending Midfielder
Sergio Busquets, Xavi, Cesc Fabregas - We all know. Mids.
Messi, Alexis, and Pedro - All strikers.
The only true defender is Abidal, who can also play Left Midfield. I think Guardiola is trying to build up a team where all the players can play in numerous positions. Feel free to criticize and share your opinions. And here is the list of some of their plaayers and what positions they are capable of playing

Dani Alves - RB, RWB, RW, ST, RM
Eric Abidal - CB, LB, LWB, LM
Javier Mascherano - DM, CB, CM, RB
Sergio - DM, CB, CM
Xavi - CM, AM, DM
Andres Iniesta - CM, AM, LW, RW
Lionel Messi - ST, AM, LW, RW, CM
Alexis Sanchez - ST, CF, AM, LW, RW
Pedro - LW, RW, ST, AM
Villa - ST, LW, RW, AM
Thiago - CM, AM, DM, LW, RW
Afellay - CM, AM, LW, RW
Cesc Fabregas - CM, AM, LW, RW, DM

I think he's trying to build a team where the entire team is a midfield, and all the defenders and attackers can also help with the build up play. Barcelona have few specialist players: Puyol and Villa. Villa can operate only as forward I'd think.

When you have an entire team that all can play as midfielders, possession will be even easier for Barcelona, the flow of the passing will be silky smooth, and setting up of chances might even be greater.

For example Pique's a fantastic CB for Barca, because he distribute the ball well, has a physical presence, assist, and score a few nifty goals. Assisted Messi w/ a fantastic backheel in the Supercopa match, and scored a great goal against Inter in 2010.
