Fun fact: The same ref that manned the Valencia robbery at the Mestalla is the same one that gave up back our 3 points tonight, we're even now.

And another "fun" fact.. Barcelona has not faced a penalty in la liga for almost 2 years, that is 74 games in a row.. thats just ridiculous and unexplainable

We don’t have Ramos or Marcelo, that’s all that’s a mark of defensive intelligence Umtiti and Pique never tackle.

This league has become a joke, Barca as always benefit from 90 percent of calls, one or two mistakes in their favour change nothing, you can cry all you want about some Valencia game, it is an exception that proves the rule.. take a look at the referees in Madrid games this season, for the first 12 games or so not even 1 penalty given, and there were at least 10, and it cost us many points.. does anyone want to tell me with a straight face that 10 consecutive penalties are a coincidence ?.. and then there was the Villareal game not long ago where we should have had 1 penalty at least, so another robbery.. thats how La Liga is these days, I hope it changes after VAR is introduced

Look what happened last season. Spanish refs are just so low quality that you can't expect anything good from them.

the fact is Barcelona never need coutinho , maybe in future but now at this moment, when messi retired maybe, coutinho cant replace Iniesta, because he not Centre Mid, the one who can replace iniesta is someone like Ozil or De Bruyne, why dont Barcelona pressure their club ? those type of player is what barcelona need.

That involves major reshuffling. Once a team loses most it's core components (parts) the team changes greatly. The team is greatly based around Messi. He creates, scores and does a lot attacking wise, without him Barca will struggle. You don't want to step into a zone like your team did for almost a decade now where your team can't challenge for a league top 4 finish or win anything. Same with my team, United. After SAF retired, our team was dried out and we literally needed a new team, players were retiring or leaving. It's hard for that team to stay the same and be at the top level, but in this day and age you need to spend and make sure you compete and don't fall off. Barca will fall off without these key players. Coutinho is one of the best players out, they need to build a new team.

And not just build a team around players like Messi and co. Suarez is getting old too and you don't know how long he'll be consistent. Generational shifts have occured now with many players retiring. The age of the youth has started again. Since Ronaldo first stepped onto the scene with Messi and dominated the World, most young talents haven't had their time to shine and tbh money has ruined their ambition and drive. Maybe focusing on youth and bringing in home-grown players is the key. United started doing it more now and it's slowly paying off. Our home-grown or youth bought players are shining and growing. They'll grow a deeper bond and understanding of players around them on the team and in the end, perform better. Barca can't afford to recreate the team they had.

Very good points both of you. I also think they need Busquet replacement a bit more, he is vital. But like LoveKavi said, in general they are aging, Coutinho would be a new gen, he needs time and a bit of guidance. He cam be a beast

Need to play better than this midweek vs. Valencia. Valverde is right that we dodged a bullet. The team was not working in first half and Coutinho + Semedo on the right is dangerous combo. Experiment did not pan out. Good we learned from that without dropping points.

So ppl here are so fucking stupid. Ref was decent. THE ONE WHO IS MAKING OFFSIDE IS THE REF ON THE SIDELINE.
The only thing you can blame him maybe was the handball. But its not automatically a penalty when all players on field are crying. Karmas a bitch.

was it really 4-3-1-2? it looks more like 4-3-3 with coutinho on the right side most of the time, valverde is still experimenting on him, he needs time to adapt that's for sure and let's hope it won't take long. overall we were pretty lucky I would admit, poor performance, I thought it's gonna be a draw. although that freekick was an offside for me, but that execution from Messi was amazing

I'm fine with the referee giving Barcelona free wins in La Liga. As long as that shit stays in La Liga, Barcelona will once again be battered in UCL Quarter-finals and I'll always have a good laugh about it.

Bayern has been eliminated by spanish competition 4 years in a row. you're league is almost as boring as ligue 1. i don't even watch bundesliga highlights, its fucking boring. maybe if you guys didn't poach players off of your biggest rivals you'd be able to practice playing decent teams so by the time the UCL came around you won't continue to get eliminated by spanish sides.

@jakobimacdobi

Learn the difference between your and you're.

Also, you seem to be forgetting Bayern 7-0 Barcelona not long ago. And honestly have gotten very unlucky since (Last year against Madrid for example)

Finally, a Swedish League fan saying the Bundesliga is boring is just rich. I don't remember seeing you in the Champions League, where is that shit team of yours. But, wait and see as now under Heynckes we'll win the treble; and I'll look back at your comment with only laughter. xD

cry? What the hell are you talking about? And why Messi MOTM was relevant for ref's decision? ref was just bad in general and I dislike Suarez's coward kick, that's all. Messi saved the day, although it definitely was not one of his game, he missed 2 good chances which were quite strange for his level. Looked tired. Barca's mid without Busquet look bad too.

Espagnol game took a lot of effort from players, also pairing digne/Semedo took off Barca main force this season : wings. Have to agree Messi looked tired, missed easy controls by his standards and dribbled wastfyully but that’s the problem in here : once your name is in the scoresheet you are MOTM. Basically Ronaldo won all the individual awards lately that way...

Refs do make mistakes. Sometimes against you and sometimes in your favor. Hopefully with VAR, its going to be less mistakes.

People seem to think the Ref can see what we can see. We have literally like hundreds of cameras around the stadium shot in 4k or 5k, at sometimes like 1000 frames a second, zooming into the blades of grass on the field. We can see everything, hence VAR will be important for the game since no one can complain after that. Science will make the important decisions, then all his boring chat about refs can go away. The game moves at such a tight speed that even offsides are hard. The difference between someone being offside by like 2 feet could equate to 0.1 second and that;s practically impossible to see with the human eye. We will never complain if the ref helps our own teams, but will complain when it's against us. Complaining is boring, I can't wait for VAR to change the game.

@LoveKavi I agree with you in respects to VAR but dont expect it to fix 100% of the problems. VAR will still depend on a ref to make the calls and theres already been cases in Budesliga were the ref in charge of VAR was purposely ignoring calls to benefit Schalke. The idea is that VAR will give the ref the tools to make more accurate decisions such as offsides and fouls. Obviously as it gets used more and more it will improve and hopefully help the matches be fair.

@Raimondo... it gives the ef a chance to correct his erroneous call, or help when in doubt, or gives him a chance to see the situation from a different angle or a second time. Not perfect but better.

In la liga standards the Umtiti hand ball is 100% up to the ref to interpret it. He considered that Umtit could not move his hand away and that the contact was ball to hand and not hand to ball. Spains refs are some of the worst admittedly.

Barca depends so much on Alba, Sergi and Busquets.

True, that was stated in Marca today. But people always cry because Barca benefitted, if madrid or some other team benefitted they would not complain about it or nobody even worried about it..

funny, i'm guessing " in la liga standards" that's not an offside either ? or the Suarez k1 practice ? correct me if i'm wrong... Why barca fans can never see the truth even if it's in front of them. Just say yes we always play 12vs11 when we need good result/comeback and that's it. Every big team gets a lot of help from the refs but Barca is always getting help when in need(ex. when they are drawing or losing a game/qualification) ALWAYS ! If you look at all the other teams they get a penalty here and there when they are leading 3-4-5 nil...it is what it is...remember alba's phantom penalty....what a disgrace...or the chelsea game

Andreas INIESTA , the maestro who had the golden touch and magnificient dribble, he doesn't have pace, nor he's strong, yet he has a simple way of playing that has won millions of hearts for a decade. Messi is always there for 3 pts. KUDOS TO ALAVES, what a performance.

It's true that Umtiti's handball may have been called as penalty (probably the ref's way of repaying us for Messi's disallowed goal vs Valencia lol jk) and before Messi's free kick there was an offside by Alcacer, but on the other hand Wakaso should've been sent off as well. I knew there was a danger of this being a match where we could lose points because Coutinho is new to the team. He's going to need many more games to get into the team's rhythm just like Suarez did when he first started. We could've won easily without Coutinho today, but we'll be better with him when he's accustomed to team.

Exactly, they should have chased for that position - a solid CDM or solid def.... the moment Busquet doesn't play or off-form, they rely on individual brilliances instead.
