I like how Zidane keep rotating CR7 and Marcelo (In this match) to keep them fit for the UCL while Valverde keep playing Messi in all matches. CR7 has been incredible in all matches he played until now while messi always looks tired

@ubibyte Only ones even close to comparable to CR7 status and legacy are Pele and Maradona, but most would agree he has surpassed them at this point.

What are you guys talking about? Do you realize that Ronaldo is a striker? His task is to literally score goals. Messi doesn't play as a striker, he's a winger/midfielder yet he has the same amount of goals as Ronaldo. I am not sure if people are saying Ronaldo can be compared to Messi as a joke or just because there's a trend but I can't understand how someone could possibly actually believe that.

Even other pro players as well as managers have admitted that Messi is the best of all time over and over. It's clearly the case if you watch Messi play. Messi can do the unthinkable, he's extremely unique. Guy goes through 5-6 defenders easily every other game. At times he goes through 5-6 defenders and scores it's jaw dropping. When have you seen that kind of a skill in Ronaldo?

But you have to realise form and team aspects too mate. Ronaldo had the worst start to the season and everyone was saying this is it, he's done this season. RM were slacking and out of shape and form for most of this season too, the CL is the only place they've excelled at and still they aren't at their top form as they didn't do too well in the group stages and just got through to the semi's. Ronaldo has lifted his team and taken them further (like the last game vs Juve he scored a sick Pen in the last seconds and before that the run and leap to win the ball in the air that lead to the penalty).

Furthermore, at 33 he's still matching Messi's goals? and Barca are having a way better season that RM by far (besides the CL knockout where he wasn't alive?). T

@ubibyte Stop lying to yourself. Nobody are saying "Ronaldo can be compared to Messi", they are saying Ronaldo is above Messi. Anyone with a pair of eyes who has watched them their careers knows Ronaldo is better. There are countless pundits, players and managers who have said Ronaldo is the greatest of all time, hence your point is invalid.

@LoveKavi don't get me wrong I am not saying Ronaldo is a bad player. I realize he's a great striker, probably one of the best. No one denies that but comparing him to Messi is not realistic. I'll tell you this, Messi will be remember forever. I don't know if we can say the same about Ronaldo. Great players have come before Ronaldo but they have been forgotten. We have excellent strikers besides Ronaldo but after retirement I really doubt people will remember them.

@Dumbeldore how many players and managers have said Ronaldo is the best excluding his own teammates? In fact, even Wayne Rooney, his old teammate has said Messi is better. I understand this is subjective to some people so I'll leave it alone. It's not possible to change someone's mind when they refuse to change it on their own.

CR7 is regarded by a plethora of legends to be the GOAT, including Pelé, Ronaldo, Zidane, Eusébio, Di Stéfano, Roberto Carlos, Cannavaro, Kaká etc. He'll be remembered for a lot longer than Messi.

You can't be serious. CR7 will be remembered forever. You do realise he's all over the record books, everywhere! Players through coming decades will have CR7 (and Messi)'s stats to look up to! Some of the greatest goals, he's playing for arguably the best and biggest club in the whole World and has most of their records already... You don't go unknown that easily after retirement. He'll be alongside all the greats from the past. But for you to say barely anyone will remember him is just ridiculous. No one has achieved what he's achieved. Most of the best players from before lasted like 2-3 seasons at most! This guy has been at the very top every year for over a decade... He'll be remembered for many decades to come, no doubt.

@wjkrause I wasn't going to say anything back but you people need to realize trophies don't make you the best in the world. Trophies are team achievements. Ronaldo did not win trophies or records on his own, don't forget that. He plays for the best team in the world they are expected to win.

According to your statement, Bill Russell in the NBA should be considered the greatest of all time because he has won 11 NBA rings. Lebron James has only got 3. If someone actually compares Bill Russell to Lebron James they are just fools. I realize it's a different sport but it makes my point.

@ubibyte

I'm talking about records, not awards. (but we can talk about individual awards too if you want since he has so many ;) )

Just to name a few off the top of my head:

- most UCL goals in a season.
- most goals for Real Madrid with the best goal:game ratio. (@the biggest club in history)
- most la liga hattricks.
- most goals in UCL history.
- most followed (twitter, facebook) athlete across all sports in the world.
- (tied 1st) most premier league goals in a season.
- most ballon d' or awards (tied 1st).
- most international goals in 1 calendar year in history
- most goals in Club WC in history

And you're telling me this man won't be remembered after he retires? Are you really that blinded by hatred towards him you ignorantly trash him online? Sad...

That's like saying Messi's awards are because of his team (Xavi/Iniesta) and the rest of that stacked team.

Messi is no doubt incredible but Ronaldo is more of a clutch player, HE'S 33!!!! And he's doing what people in their prime years wished they could do. Players have their best season of their life barely match Ronaldo's worst seasons. This is supposed to be one of Ronaldo's worst seasons, yet he's bounced back and still breaking records. One man has dominated football. CR7 is a name that can't go unforgotten. How many footballers do you think can even step to his level? Messi is the only one and they both duck in and out of each other each season for best performances. Overall as a player, I'd like to say I'd prefer Messi, but Ronaldo defies the odds. GOAT>
