Celtic

• Celtic started this season in the second qualifying round, beating Linfield FC (2-0 away, 4-0 home) and then Rosenborg BK in the third qualifying round (0-0 home, 1-0 away). They recorded a fifth successive clean sheet with a 5-0 win against FC Astana in the home first leg of the play-offs, advancing despite a 4-3 loss in Kazakhstan.
• The defeat at Astana was only Celtic's second in their last nine European games (W4 D3).
• Scottish champions for a sixth consecutive season in 2016/17 – when they went through their domestic campaign unbeaten – Celtic are in the group stage for the tenth time.
• Celtic have won just two of their last six European home matches.

Paris Saint Germain

• The teams' only previous encounters came in the 1995/96 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup second round, Paris running out comfortable 4-0 winners over the two legs – and going on to lift their sole piece of major European silverware.
• Quarter-finalists in four successive seasons between 2013 and 2016, PSG were on the wrong end of the biggest comeback in UEFA Champions League history in last term's round of 16. Having won 4-0 at home to FC Barcelona, the French team succumbed 6-1 in the away leg to bow out with Neymar, now of Paris, providing two goals and anassist.
• The Parisians have won five of their last nine away fixtures in the competition, losing three. They are without a clean sheet in six away matches.
