Match facts

Barcelona

  • Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 13 Champions League home games against Italian sides (W10 D3), since a 1-2 loss vs Juventus in April 2003.
  • Barcelona have won 25 of their last 27 home Champions League games (D2) since losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich in May 2013, scoring 85 goals and conceding just 13 in those games.
  • Ernesto Valverde's side opened Group B with a 4-0 home victory against PSV Eindhoven before winning 4-2 at Tottenham on matchday two. With eight goals, they are the joint top scorers in the competition alongside Paris Saint-Germain.
  • Lionel Messi will miss this match along with El Clasico after being ruled out for three weeks with a fractured arm as Barcelona beat Sevilla on Saturday to go top of La Liga.

Inter

  • Inter are looking to win their opening three Champions League matches in a season for just the second time, also doing so in the 2004-05 season.
  • Since winning 4-0 against Werder Bremen in September 2010, each of Inter’s last nine Champions League wins have been achieved by a one-goal margin – of the 12 teams to win 50 Champions League games, Inter have the highest margin of victories by one-goal (32 of 52, 62%), while opponents Barcelona have the lowest (40 of 140, 29%).
  • Inter have won their last two Champions League games despite conceding the first goal in both games; only two clubs have ever won more despite conceding first in consecutive games – Man Utd (three in November 2012) and Real Madrid (four in April 2017).

Predictions

The fact Barcelona have kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 9 matches certainly backs up the theory that there will be a goal in this for the Italians.

The Catalans have been tending to go 3 up front this term which is leaving them slightly exposed in midfield and at the back at times and that may continue here with Ousmane Dembele likely to earn a recall due to Messi’s injury.

It’s hard to see them running away with this one like they might have done had Messi been fit but there is still more than enough quality and firepower for them to net at least a couple of goals. Overall backing Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score appeals, a bet that has landed in 6 of Barca’s last 9 matches and in 4 of Inter’s last 7.

Final Score – 2 : 1

Inter was one of the greatest football teams. They have crushed any of European giants including Chelsea, Barca, and Munich, and attained the treble, which is the first achievement in Italy. Even though they have struggled in the last decade, they still have their glorious history which makes themselves so proud. Even though they would have hard time against Barca this time, no doubt they are still one of the best Italian clubs. I hope they show the true power of Italian football again. Forza Serie A!!!
