@AxelMza2, people who don't know the rules makes me laugh too. Russian league winner gets a direct ticket in the first spot cause Russian League is a 6th rated in Europe just right after the top5 leagues.

1 Spain 103.569
2 England 85.462
3 Italy 74.725
4 Germany 71.927
5 France 58.498
6 Russia 50.549
7 Portugal 48.232
8 Belgium 39.900
9 Ukraine 38.900
10 Turkey 34.600
11 Netherlands 32.433

Because the Russian teams perform better...it's a fair model

Neurop The Champions League has historically been for Champions. This includes European cup. Champions of Holland (Ajax) and Serbia (Red Star) shouldn’t need to qualify, finishing 1st in their leagues. However strong they are.

This year we get to see Atalanta 4th Serie A and Lille 3rd. Speaks for itself. They are not Champions

Yes because the model has been re-adapted. Would you enjoy a competition without teams like Dortmund, Liverpool, Atletico, Napoli etc? Just to replace them with champions of lower level leagues?

I think the current model makes sense. It's basically the 32 best teams in Europe, or close to it.

If it is already decided that the dutch will qualify, why bother playing and giving three penalties?
Also, champion against champion and runner up against third of Turkey? Uefa are becoming a bureaucratic joke

The champions path only has champions against each other. For Olympiacos it was just a tough draw

I know the rules, i'm just saying they're totally wrong. I bet the bureaucrats will change them before long...

Hahaha. Last year PAOK was complaining that AEK had an easy draw because they won the greek championship. Now that PAOK won the championship is complaining again, that Olympiacos had an easy draw in the non-champion route. ahhahahaha. so funny

Well, as much as I support the Dutch team, our league is quite low, there was an idea to combine with Belgium but for now, this is something we should swallow

@Nasdorowje
I think people know the rules, it's more that it feels strange that the Dutch league is so low. Intuitively I'd put it above Turkey, Ukraine and Belgium at the very least and more on par with Russia and Portugal. The coefficients just seem odd in general. But I guess maybe it's because the average league level is quite low even if the top teams such as Ajax and PSV are quite competent... but in that case it still wouldn't make sense how something like Ukraine is above them where Shakhtar or Dynamo Kiev dominate the league every year. Idk it just feels a bit off

Yes,i can agree with you, the current rank of Dutch league looks really strange, it's close to russian and portuguese and should be on 7-8 pot. Of course it's an average level of the league, the top teams like Benfica, Porto, Ajax, PSV, Zenit and CSKA are all competitive in Europe, but if you look closer at the results each year, you could see that dutch and portuguese teams below 2-3 place in their leagues leave eurocups on an early stages, that's why we are still on a sixth place, we always have 3-4 teams which could bring us the points. Same with Ukraine, not so long ago Dnipro was in a EL final, they got some extra points that season.
Last season was very successful for Netherlands, just compare, they got 8.600(Portugal 10.900,Russia 7.583)but in 17/18 only 2.900,thats why

Yes, russian league rating is higher because of overall size of the league, competition level but you don’t produce a single worthy player nor do russian teams do good in CL. Champions league was called champions for a reason and Ajax is a standout champion.

Man Ajax almost failed to even make it to the UCL this time. Though honestly the Dutch champions surely shouldn't have to play qualifiers to get there, really now
