I think it's fair to say that this referee won't ever decide a game again

Why? Considering the rules, he managed the trouble with leverkusens manager correctly.
And the other flaws can happen.

What a weird game, there were some questionable decisions by the referee, including taking his linesman team off the field for 9 minutes in protest of the Leverkusen manager refusing to leave. Then he ends the game prior to the full 3 minutes of injury time?

They stopped the game and time when the referee left the field.. so yes it's only 3 mins

No Bdr...you've misunderstood me. I recognize that the referee stopped the clock when Leverkusen's manager refused to leave and that those minutes weren't added to the injury time. But when the game did go into injury time the ref did not let the game play out for the full 3 minutes, he stopped it at 2 minutes and 20 seconds or close to that, and Leverkusen were pressing as well and could've had another chance. I've never seen that before, and I've always thought that the rule of thumb for injury time was that it was the minimum amount that must be given, and only AFTER that time has elapsed it is up to the ref to let the game play on or to blow the whistle.

Watched it via Sky yesterday and the referee stopped the game at 3 minutes and 20something seconds of injury time. In the highlights you can find on the internet it stopps at 2 minutes and something, just as you say. My guess is that something went wrong with the timecounters, caused by the pause.
