Farmer league 3rd place kicked your champion's ass in their home. Keep singing "It's coming home" cocky english fans, at least that was funny. 1 CL won in 10years and nothing to show on national level. Where does all that gloating comes from?

Unlike EPL, the top European league champions were already known even before the season has started or even ended.
Bundesliga: Bayern Munich, La Liga: Real Madrid or Barcelona. Ligue 1: PSG and Seria A: Juventus. Thatis for sure. BORRRRINGG!!!! EPL is what you call a competitive league.

Not the best result by ManC, but I reckon it is just an accident. Nothing more nothing less. I do expect Pep can rally the team and fight back. Real used to lose against Tottenham, and they went on to win the CL that year.

This year I have high hope on Liverpool and ManC to win the CL.

I saw a few comments degrading the PL, and say this and that. It does not matter at the very least though, and we will see in the next round, which team will win ;)

The 'degradations' are mainly a joke to illustrate the point that when any team outside of Liga and EPL don't do well, they're classified as farmers by average football fans. The people who say this are generally idiots, so it's nice to make them eat their own words!

why some people can't just appreciate a football performance without denigrating a whole country/league and without always making comparisons between leagues ("my league is the best, yours is the worst" blablabla)

Honestly. Do football fans no longer appreciate football in the pure form? Makes me a little sad

Lyon (3rd in france) beat Man city (1st in England), Roma (3rd in italy) also beat Barcelona (1st in spain), Liverpool (4th in England) beat PSG (1st in france).

Whatever result in UCL its doesnt change the fact that Ligue 1 is one horse race and farmer league, its not impossible to lose to farmers, Tottenham lose to Belgian plumbers few season ago in europa league , argentina and portugal drew with accountants and filmmaker that play for Iceland.

then you have to explain why every year PL/Liga/Bundesliga/Seria A clubs likes to buy farmers from this farmer league .... You should show more respect for a league that gives every year to your league some top players... especially when the only merit of your league, who does'nt produce talents, is to have the money to buy the talents of the others... while the merit of ligue 1 is to produce talents and regenerate each year when your clubs comes with money to take these talents...

Fox just because other leagues buy from France doesn't mean it's not an farmer league . PSG been winning titles year after year and destroyed reigning champion Monaco 7-0 last year which is absurd

To everyone but fox: the idea of calling a professional footballer a 'farmer' because he doesn't compete in one of two leagues in the world is ridiculous as shit! If anything, losTerry's original comment should point out that good football can be played regardless of what league it originates from.

You say Tottenham but why not say Londonian bakers while you're at it? There's a constant bias and it's propagated by casual fans (which makes your comment quite ironic Madacity). I would say that people that do know football can appreciate at many different tiers. Dismissing good football as mediocre makes you..ignorant, frankly.

As for the Irish lad, c'mon man, we don't expect you guys to fall into the trap of arrogance.

?? When was the last time City spent money on a "Big" name. Arguably Mahrez but he wasn't really considered as a big player that is one of the best. Before that, I don't think City have spend any money on "Big" names. Only rising young talents or good players that not many people payed attention to.

Laporte, Stirling, stones, otamendi, walker, mendy, bernardo silva, de bruyne, sane, gundogan, jesus, ederson etc all which were quite recent

Sterling was a young talent at Liverpool when they bought him. Laporte, Otamendi were playing Midtable LaLiga and not well known CBs, Stones was playing for Everton and was still very undeveloped as a player when they got him, Bernardo and Mendy were playing for Monaco and weren't even considered the best players on that team before City got them. De Bruyne was at Wolfsburg and not many teams payed attention to him, Sane was at Schalke and also wasn't very well known. I don't think anyone even heard of Ederson until his 16/17 season with Benfica.

My point is that City buy young talents or hidden gems from lower teams and develop them to the point they are considered world class players, they are not like PSG who spend 200m on stars like Neymar or 90m on Pogba.

Fair play to Lyon, they won away against a good English side. But you all would be bored having one team winning the title too often which is usually the case in league 1. The teams there might be competive, but there are rarely upsets from the smaller teams which neutrals want to see and enjoy. The Premier league might not be as technical as other leagues but it sure entertaining to watch ALL teams as you can bet your money there is likely to be an upset in games and even who may ultimately win the league. We all love football because we're entertained, denying that would be crazy.

Never question the competitiveness of Ligue 1 clubs. PSG lost to a red hot Liverpool squad in the last minute, Monaco (currently near the bottom of the table) closely lost to a talented Atletico, and Lyon is very high energy with many players able to score with skill. No excuses, but City is not in top form with the likes of Mendy, Aguero, and KDB not fit to start. There is much work ahead for City, who would be without chance of breaking the group stage, if they were in groups A, B, or C in my opinion.

After watching the game I also got the impression that Manchester City greatly underestimated Lyon, even the bookies did so. To me Liverpool seems much more of a favorite than Manchester City is this year, especially taking into consideration injuries and the other things you mentioned. In short they need to start their best team if they want to win anything at all.

First, no need for talking that way. Second of all, yesterday Liverpool played amazing as usual lately and deserves the win. To be honest 2-3 at anfield isnt that bad. Im just reacting to the ligue1 and France baching that happens in this website from mostly english fans. And apart of winnig the world cup, something else we are gratfull for is for exemple kante, i think you can relate to that no? Face it, without you buying all the farmer league players you wouldnt be that good. Point made, again

Of course that it's a FArmer league. The only good thing about THIS is that it happened against the 2nd GYPSY TEAM IN THE WORLD, MAN-CITY (1st, being PSG).
Lyon got twice near the goal, and scored twice, as a result of the mistakes of domestic players!
However, it's true that way too cocky, because their league isn't so much above the others!

1 off game when city defense gave 2 free goals and the team didn't even have their manager on the sideline. Its still a farmer league, because theres only 1 quality team in the whole league and that is PSG.

Ligue 1 is not a farmers league City fanboys. It's a one league team like Serie A and Bundesliga but are we really gonna sit here and pretend that teams like Lyon, Monaco and Marseille are that much weaker than Spurs, Arsenal, Inter, Roma, Napoli, Hoffenheim, Schalke 04, Dortmund, Sevilla or Valencia, etc.?

City also lost to Wigan last season, and England lost Iceland in 2016. Barcelona lost to Roma, etc. etc. Upsets happen. In football, the better team doesn't always win, that doesn't mean that it isn't a "farmer league" just because they can pull off a shock result once in a while. Not to mention City had a terrible first half and gifted 2 goals. I'm pretty sure City can get the 3 points in the away fixture for sure.
